PARENT GROUPS

Adoptive, Foster Care and Kinship Care Support Group:
The group meets one evening per month. Opportunities include training, information on community resources, guest speakers and the opportunity to connect with other parents in similar circumstances. Contact Bruce Mackie for more information (1-877-874-1376). There is no charge to attend.

Nan’s Play Pals:
A playful and interactive group for mom or dad and child age birth to 5. Includes fun activities that enrich a child’s social, emotional, motor and language development. Activities include circle time with puppets, singing, stories, dance, rhythmic instruments and sign language. Cost is $5 per family and no registration is required (First Thursday of the month sessions are free). Meets on Thursdays from 10:00-10:45am at the Bay Regional Medical Center’s Women’s Health Pavilion (West Campus) Bay City, MI 48706. Call 671-1295 for more information.

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorders (CHADD):
Monthly meetings held at the Grace A. Dow Library Lounge in Midland from 7-9 pm. The group is designed to provide education and support. Contact person is Sabrina Frawley at 1-989-737-0735.

ARC of Bay County:
The ARC sponsors a monthly support group for family, parents, friends, and advocates of the mentally disabled. Meetings are held at the ARC office, 708 Columbus Ave, Bay City at 7:00pm. Call 893-1346 for more information.

Parenting with Love and Logic:
A 7 week parenting series offered by MPA Group Ltd. throughout the year. This educational course offers fun and easy to use parenting techniques to use with children of all ages. The group is free for those with Medicaid. Scholarships are available. Contact Michelle Richards at 667-9661.

Family Enrichment Classes:
The YWCA of Bay County offers an eight-week parenting series throughout the year. Classes meet in the evenings and include dinner. Assistance with childcare and transportation is provided. There is no charge for the group. For more information or to register, contact 686-4800.

This Isn’t What I Expected – Depression After Delivery:
A group for women experiencing depression or other troubling emotions after birth or who are having trouble adjusting to a new baby. Group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 11:00am-12:30pm and the 4th Thursday from 6:30-8:00pm at the Women’s Health Pavilion – Childbirth Education Classroom. No charge to attend and registration is not required. Contact Sherry LaMere or Kelli Wilkinson at 895-2240.

Building Strong Families:
A 15-week parenting education series offered to parents who have young children age birth to three years. A trained parenting staff person from the MSU Extension visits 1:1 with the family in their home to discuss parenting, child development, child safety, nutrition, reading to your child, connecting with community resources, handling difficult behavior, etc. To request services call Ann Arnold or Karen Gentle at 895-4026.

Precious Reflections Support Group:
This support group is sponsored by Bay Regional Medical Center and is open to parents who have experienced a pregnancy or newborn loss. Held one evening per month. The group is free and no registration is required. Call 894-3034 for information and location.

Parenting Support Group – Boys and Girls Club:
This parent group meets during the school year one evening per week at the Boys and Girls Club in Bay City. Groups include guest presenters, information on effective parenting strategies, problem solving, networking with other parents, and resource information. No charge to attend and no registration is required. For information on dates and times, please call 892-6723.

Parenting Angry and Defiant Kids:
An eight week series for parents to learn how to cope with and effectively parent angry and defiant kids. For information on dates and times contact Bay Arenac Behavioral Health at 895-2240.

Kinship Care Support Group:
This group is a great way to meet others who are raising grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings, and other children of relatives. The group focuses on topics of interest to kinship care families including resource information, educational presentations, and connection to other families raising related children and socialization. The group meets every Wednesday from 9:30-11:00am at St. Bonifice Parish Center (corner of McKinley & Lincoln). There is no charge. For information, call Nancy at 686-4998.

MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers:
A support group for mothers of preschoolers (MOPS) meets from 9:30-11:30am on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of each month at First United Methodist Church, 300 N. Wenona Avenue. This non-denominational group gives mothers with children from birth to age 5 a chance to meet with each other to network, socialize, share ideas, do crafts, etc. Childcare is provided. Great Parents Great Start:

Single Parent Support Group:
An 8 week series for single parents held at Created for Caring several times per year. Assistance with childcare is provided. There is no cost to attend but registration is required. Contact Jackie Campbell for future dates and times at 892-7475
