What
are Residential Services?
Residential
Services provide living options at the minimum level of care
necessary to meet the needs of the person being served. Levels
of residential care include the following:
Semi-independent
or Supportive Living: This is for people who are able to live
independently in the community with some support. Help may
come from family members or from their natural support systems.
Additional help may be arranged and funded by Community Mental
Health and other community resource organizations.
Licensed Adult Foster Care: This is for people who require
basic 24-hour supervision. This level of care includes room
and board.
Specialized Residential and Community Living Facilities (CLF):
This is for people who have a higher level of medical needs
and/or behavioral challenges and who require an intensive
level of specialized services. This level of care includes
24-hour supervision, room, board and staff trained to implement
specialized treatment plans under the supervision of clinical
professionals.
Inpatient Care: This is for people who are unable to live
in the community and who need restrictive medical, psychiatric
or behavioral interventions.
Who
can benefit from Residential Services?
These services
are designed for people who have a developmental disability,
mental illness, or serious emotional disturbance and have
needs that warrant residential care in a mental health treatment
program.
How
can Residential Services help an individual?
Residential
Services staff help people live in a residential setting that
is as independent as possible, while meeting their health
and safety needs. At the same time, the staff seeks to empower
them to more fully participate in their communities. A person-centered
planning approach is used to help identify an individual's
strengths, dreams, goals, and desires. A Supports Coordinator
or Client Services Manager may help secure the most appropriate
living option. Assistance may include encouraging an individual
to achieve a higher level of independence, increase his or
her personal care skills, and development of a natural support
system.
